Work has begun on the City’s newest park located in front of City Hall Annex, 999 Broad Street.
The latest look at the Pleasure Beach Fishing Pier
Starting today, City public works crews will begin planting beach grass and three different types of shrubs to help stabilize and re-establish the dune environment along ‘the spit’ in Ash Creek near St. Mary’s by the Sea. The plantings will include a mix of American Beach Grass (Ammophilia breiviligulata), Beach Plum (Prunus martima), Sand Cherry (Prunus depressa) andStaghorn Sumac (Rhus typhina).
Planting is scheduled to begin today, Thursday, Oct. 6 and should be completed by Friday afternoon. A snow fence will be erected to help shield the plants during the winter months. The plantings cost approximately $5-6,000 dollars.
Sidewalks have been installed, and storm drainage has been upgraded along Gilman Street in the City’s Black Rock neighborhood as part of the City’s Bridgeport@Work capital improvements plan.
Approximately 1,100 feet of new concrete sidewalks and curbs have been installed along Gilman from Courtland to the existing stone dust walking path that runs to St. Mary’s by the Sea. The stone dust walkways have been upgraded as well, in keeping with the natural setting along the water’s edge.
Newfield Park upgrades to include barbecue shelter and splash pad
Newfield Park in the City’s East End will get a facelift with the addition of a barbecue shelter and a splash pad-children’s play area, funded by the City’s Bridgeport@Work capital improvements plan.
The barbecue shelter will be installed directly next to the horseshoe pits and adjacent to the playground so families can utilize the space for barbecues and parties.
A nearly five-mile long bike route is being created to link Black Rock with Seaside Park, funded by the City’s Bridgeport@Work capital improvements plan.
The proposed route will be aligned along the following roads:
The milling of Water Street (between Fairfield Avenue and State Street) and Middle Street (between John Street and Fairfield Avenue) in downtown Bridgeport began on Monday, September 12.
Here’s the latest look at the Madison Avenue streetscape improvements.
This project is extending the Madison Ave. streetscapes across North Ave. to Harral Ave. Streetscapes will include tree plantings and new light fixtures.
